All About Me
My name is
Krista, and I'm
21 years old. I've been going to AiO since
February of 2007, and I am very excited to have progressed as much as I have! I am trying to get my degree online here, so that I may one day teach what I have learned, and what I am good at. :) I've taught many people how to code in the past, but that was mostly basic stuff. I want to learn it all so I can help with all questions!
I've been studying/working with web design since I was
13 years old. It has become one of my daily hobbies since then, and I love to code things! I would say I know all of the concepts of HTML, and I've tinkered with Javascript, but I don't know too much about them other than what I've looked up. I have a PHP-based website
here. :) I wouldn't say I know everything about PHP, but I know some basic things--and one thing I know is I find it way easier to create the layout in one document and leave the texts in their separate files--that way you only need to modify one document, and not a million! Page refreshes (to check for errors) were severely decreased for that page, and others I've created with it.
CSS is very easy for me, and I would say I prefer it to basic HTML coding. I use it a lot in my
livejournal layouts, and I've come to understand that the "S2 System" of livejournal is
also PHP, so I have played around with that as well! :)
Flash I am definitely not a fan of; at least as far as working with it goes. It can be very cool to view, however~! Macromedia Flash is a very buggy program, and I get frustrated with it easily. The last class I took was all flash-based. (You can see my final project
here if you are interested.)
I am a hardcore bones-coder, which basically means I do all of my web designing in Notepad. I have tried it all--Dreamweaver, Frontpage, HTMLBeauty++, and even Notepad Plus. You name it. It's never as comfortable to me as regular old Notepad! It's just what I've been working with for many,
many years, and it's hard to break the habit. I like having everything in front of me and having full control over being able to change and edit different sections of my pages.
I have had my own web domain (
ZEROfacade.com) since 2003, and way prior to that I have been playing with servers that my friends have shared space with me on. It was confusing at first, but now I know everything about setting up my things, and editing them, and even where all the options are in cPanel. :) It's definitely handy to have! I host a lot of friends these days~.
I used to upload all of my files via WS_FTP95, but since the plugin for Firefox has come out called
FireFTP, I have been using that. :D It's very easy to use. One button in my browser--no switching between browser and program! A definite must-have if you are a coder who uses Firefox! (And this I really recommend, as Internet Explorer is very buggy and uses up a lot of memory resources these days. Lets not even breech the security issues...)
Firefox also has a lot of add-ons for us web designers. :) There is one in particular called Web Developer that I am falling in love with. It makes checking for errors so easy!
Another passion I have is working with
Adobe Photoshop! I was very privileged when I was younger, since I had a friend who's father worked in a design studio. He was able to get many expensive programs like this, and Paintshop Pro for free. I've been using Photoshop since version 5.0 first came out! :3 I am using CS3 currently, and loving it. Even if I am not using it for coding--I use it at least once a day, modifying photos or making wallpapers, or just enhancing scans of pictures I take! :D You
always learn something new with Photoshop, no matter how advanced a user you are of it, and I think that is why I am so fascinated by learning more about it.
My goals for the course are simple: Learn more abour programming!! I've honestly been wanting to take out some time and learn more about it, but since I've been busy with all of my classes, this has been put off. This will finally give me a chance to learn more about the basics and what I should be looking at in the future. :) I'm honestly excited about this, because I love to learn!
